Access Statement for The Post House Bed and Breakfast

Introduction

The Post House aims to cater for the needs of all visitors to our home in Chewton Mendip.  There are two bedrooms specifically for Bed and Breakfast.  One of these can be made up with twin beds. The separate Old Bakery can either be for B&B or entirely self catering with its own sitting room and fully equipped kitchen.

Unfortunately the format of the B&B is not wheelchair friendly.

Pre Arrival

• Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so that we can be sure we are here to welcome you.
• We normally ask guests to arrive between 4.30pm and 9pm.  Earlier or later arrival may be possible by arrangement.
• We are located in the village of Chewton Mendip on the A39. 
• There are bus stops within 100m affording a half hourly service between Wells (10 mins) and Bristol (40 mins) to Temple Meads Station.
• Bristol International Airport is 35 minutes away by car.
• Local taxi service is available if required.  We are very happy to make a booking for you.
• Our breakfast menu can be provided in large print, if required, by prior arrangement, and we have printed brochures.
• We have a comprehensive website www.theposthousebandb.co.uk which includes a booking enquiry form.

• Arrival and Car Parking Facilities
• On arrival at The Post House B&B, there are ample car parking facilities for three cars at the rear of the property.
• Further Car Parking is available nearby, if required.
• We can assist guests with their luggage.
• Pubs and Restaurants in the area. There are a number of these in the immediate vicinity and a broader choice in Wells (10 minutes by car).  We are happy to assist with reservations and further information on request. 

Main Entrance and Reception

• Entrance is from the Car Park by double doors 110cm wide.  There are two steps down from the car park and a small step up into the house.
• On arrival there will always be someone to greet our guests, and to show them to their rooms.
• The Reception Hall has a reception desk and call button.
• The Reception Hall floor is level and laid with travertine tiles.
• Public Areas – General (internal)

WC facilities

• All bedrooms are en suite with private WC facility. 

Breakfast Room

• Breakfast is served in the Dining Room on the Ground Floor.
• There is a large antique French refectory table and antique French sideboard.
• Menus can be provided on request.
• We do not play background music in any area of the B&B.
• Floors are the original flagstones.

Sitting Room

• There is a large sitting room available in the Old Bakery self catering cottage.  This is available to B&B visitors when the Old Bakery is not let as self catering.
• There is a large 32” LCD television installed in this sitting room.

Laundry Service

• Not available, except for self catering

Shops

• There is a village shop/bakery within walking distance.
• Supermarkets are located in Chilcompton (5mins by car), Wells (10mins by car) and Midsomer Norton (8 mins by car).
• Bath is 35 minutes by car.
• Bristol is 35 minutes by car.
• Clarks Factory Outlet Village at Street.  (30 mins by car).
• Farringtons Farm Shop (5 mins by car).

Leisure Facilities

• Golf Clubs are situated at Farrington Gurney (8 mins by car), Wells (10 mins by car), Mendip (15 mins by car).
• The Post House is surrounded by good walking and cycling countryside.
• Horse trekking is available locally.
• Fishing on the Chew Valley Lakes (10 mins by car).

Sightseeing

• Wells, Glastonbury, Street, Cheddar, Wookey Hole, Longleat House and Safari Park, Bath and Bristol are all located within a 14mile radius.

Wifi and Internet

• These facilities are available with a security code connection. 

Outdoor Facilities

• The Post House has a small garden at the back.  Both the Bed and Breakfast, and the Self Catering side have a separate courtyard to sit out in during the summer months

Bedrooms

• There are 3 Bedrooms available.
• There is an information folder in each room and details of local leisure attractions.

Bedroom 1

• There are 14 stairs leading to this first floor Bedroom.
• The Bedroom has its own lockable door.
• The stairs are 17cm high, 14cm deep, 76cm wide.
• Soundproof secondary glazing has been installed.
• The Bed can either be Super King size with access from both sides or Twin Beds.
• Bedding is 100% Egyptian cotton sheet and duvet.
• Extra pillows and a blanket are provided.
• There is a wall mounted TV with remote control and freeview.
• There is a hanging cupboard 65cm wide x 152cm high to the pole, and a cupboard with 3 shelves 90 cm wide x 48cm deep.
• Furniture comprises of a dressing table/desk, a small cupboard and two bedside tables with lamps, as well as two canvass armchairs and a luggage rack.
• Tea and Coffee making facilities are provided.
• A hairdryer is in the room.  A radio clock alarm and torch is provided.
• There is a separate (but exclusive) bathroom adjacent to this Bedroom, with its own WC, hand basin and shaver point.
• The Bath is cast iron freestanding and 64cm wide x 158cm long with hand-held shower facility, if required.
• There is also a washstand and armchair in this Bathroom.

Bedroom 2

• There are 12 stairs leading to this first floor bedroom.
• The Bedroom has its own lockable door.
• The stairs are 17cm high, 24cm deep and 76cm wide.
• There is a double bed with access from both sides.  It is provided with bedside tables with lamps.
• Bedding is 100% Egyptian cotton sheet and duvet. 
• Extra pillows and a blanket are provided.
• The bath is square and freestanding within the room (90cm x90cm) with hand held shower facility.  The WC has its own door and hand basin.
• There is a wall mounted TV with remote control and freeview.
• Hanging facilities are provided, 120cm long x 108cm to the pole.
• Furniture comprises of a floor standing cupboard with two shelves 60cm wide x 40cm deep.  There is an extra, small cupboard, two canvas armchairs and a luggage rack.
• Tea and coffee making facilities are provided.
• A hairdryer is in the room.  A radio clock alarm is provided.  A shaving point adaptor and torch are in the room.

Bedroom 3

• The Self Catering cottage can be entirely self secure.
• There is a lockable Fire Door between this cottage and the Main House.
• The Self Catering cottage bedroom is on the first floor.
• There are 12 stairs, 20cm high x 25cm deep x 74cm wide.
• The Bedroom has its own lockable door at the top of these stairs.
• Soundproof secondary glazing has been installed.
• The Bedroom has oak floorboards.
• There is a double bed with access from both sides, with bedside tables with lamps.
• The bedding is 100% Egyptian cotton sheet and duvet.
• Extra pillows and a blanket are provided.
• A hairdryer is in the room.  A radio clock alarm is provided.  A shaving point adaptor and torch are in the room.
• The furniture comprises of a chest of drawers, dressing table/desk, 2 canvas armchairs and a luggage rack.
• There is a hanging cupboard 58cm wide x 175cm high to the pole.
• The en-suite bathroom contains Bath with Shower over, WC and handbasin.
• Tea and Coffee making facilities are provided.

The Self Catering Old Bakery

• This secure unit has its own Front and Back doors and is accessed from the Main House through a lockable Fire Door.
• The Old Bakery has been newly renovated throughout.
•  It comprises Sitting room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and private courtyard.
• The Sitting Room is 6m60cm long x 4m20cm wide with double doors leading to a small exclusive Courtyard, 6m long x 5m20cm wide containing suitable garden furniture.
• The Sitting Room includes a large, decorative fireplace, a large sofa, 5 chairs and 2 round tables.
•  There is a 32” LCD TV with freeview.  The floorboards are level, newly laid solid oak.
• The Kitchen is 4m30cm long x 3m 10cm wide.  It contains Fridge with small freezer compartment, Dishwasher, Washing machine, Smeg gas cooker, kettle, toaster and all required crockery and kitchen utensils and a Belfast sink with draining boards.
• There is more than adequate worktop space available and two old pine cupboards with drawers, with extra cupboard space available as well.
• The kitchen floor is level newly laid travertine tiles.

Additional Information

• Assistance dogs can be accommodated.
• Mobile phone and Blackberry reception is variable, depending on provider. O2 is the best.
• Limited fridge space is available on request.
• We are a No smoking building.  Smoking is allowed in the Courtyards and in the garden.
• There are adequate ground floor exit doors in the Main House, and in the Old Bakery.  These must be accessed via the stairs in each building.
• Smoke detectors will ring continuously in the event of an emergency.
• If you require more assistance for evacuating the building (e.g. hearing impairment) please notify us on arrival, and we will ensure that you are evacuated safely.
• There is a fire extinguisher in the main hallway outside the Breakfast room.  A second fire extinguisher is located in the Old Bakery and a fire extinguisher is in each of the two kitchens.
• A First Aid Box is located in our kitchen.
